I thank you for reading and your willingness to help me. I've gone through the forum for 2 hours now and have tried a few things but am stuck.

I d/led DW from Strategy First, no prob, installed, no prob, go to run, problem. I get the annoying vista window which says the DW has stopped working, check for online... or close the program. The details I will put below, don't know if they will help or not.

Alright, now I should tell you what I've got inside my box, and what troubleshooting I've tried.

CPU: AMD Athalon x2 64 6000+ Dual Core
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
GPU: EVGA e-GeForce 7800GT
GPU Driver Version: 7.15.11.7813
GPU Driver Date: 9/17/2008
GPU Driver By: Nvidia
RAM: 2GB
HD: x4 80GB SATA Western Digital set in RAID 0

so there is the short list of what is in my box. Now onto what I've tried doing to resolve my problem.

1. Have tried running all compatibility modes with various options... no joy

2. Have used AMD's Dual Core Optimizer... no joy

3. Have edited ini file to try and run in a window... no joy

4. Have edited ini file to disable sound... no joy

5. Have edited ini file to disable hardware cursor... no joy

6. Have edited ini file to use vsync... no joy

7. Have tried using edits to ini file together, and individually... no joy

So that is that, any ideas, suggestions, anything at all, I'm willing to name my first born after the person that can help me fix this problem.

Thanks.

To be frank, I have not the faintest.

My first guess was your CPU being the reason for trouble but you obviously tried the fix for that. Hmmm... did you try any other solutions for Dual Core problems ? Like those found here : http://www.commanders-academy.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dangerous_Waters_-_Wiki (ImageCfg Tool).

Unfortunatly since I'm only a user too I have limited options in helping you or at least finding the exact cause ... hopefully someone from SCS drops in here .

Yes. I've used 3rd party software to launch the dangerouswaters.exe and making it use only one core. I've confirmed that is being launched and using only one core by allowing the APPCRASH prompt to stay ontop of everything, going into Task Managers, right clicking on the app, and viewing the settings for Affinity. Sure enough only CPU 0 is check, CPU 1 is unchecked.

Yeah, I haven't the faintest idea either. I've also tried other stuff like taking off "ALL" of my protection software, AV, firewall. Uninstalling the AISuite programs for my overclocking that comes with my ASUS board, taking Vista down to running only the essential applications. Nothing seems to work. I'm miffed cause I'd REALLY like a good naval warfare game, I've beaten the heck out of Janes 688(i) Hunter Killer.

But to answer your question, yep, I've tried forcing it to launch only using a single core of my CPU.
