1) Check the registry
Yes. My registry is exactly as you described above.

2) Check the integrity of your 3D.grp
My checksum was not the same as you listed: My result was
MD5 (3d.grp) = 6c13e4c4db7628f404b212f9eb42f53d

3) Updated Drivers and Disabling Sound Support
VIDEO - ATI drivers are up to date
SOUND - I disabled my sound support and it made no difference.

4) Downloading demo now. Will let you know how I get on. Guess the checksum could be the issue though - dodgy download?

EDIT: My hard drive has 18.1 Gb free. The drive capacity is 55.8 Gb

Hey guys,

If you are one of the people with the incorrect checksums on your 3D.grp that means that you may have had a faulty download or extraction within Steam. It might be worth trying to get the game again...

    1) Right click on "Dangerous Waters" in Steam and select "Delete Local Content".

NOTE: This is NOT going to delete Dangerous Waters from your list, it will just put it into the "NOT INSTALLED" list below. You will ALWAYS have access to download DW again, and again (of course, you bought it!)

    2) Right click on "Dangerous Waters" in the NOT INSTALLED section and select "Install Game..."

    3) After the download of the game has completed (about 1.2GB) and Steam extracts all of the files for the first running of the game, please let us know if your CRC checksums are still incorrect or if they are now what I listed above (i.e. please repeat the steps above to let us know if the game loads and runs).

1)Check the registry
Yes. My registry is exactly as you described above.

2) Check the integrity of your 3d.grp.
My checksum was not the same as you listed: My result was MD5 (3d.grp) = ba2a6c12f333428abc567dff3320361a

3) Updated Drivers and Disabling Sound Support
VIDEO = Nvidia drivers up to date
SOUND - I Disabled sound support and game still will not run

4) Downloaded and played demo in perfect working order.

Windows Error:

AppName: dangerouswaters.exe AppVer: 0.1.0.3 ModName: dangerouswaters.exe
ModVer: 0.1.0.3 Offset: 000e34dc

I have deleted and reinstalled the game. The checksum has changed but is still different than the one you have listed.

Thanks in advance for any help,

PFC Kenneth Dubroff Us Army

Edit: New download and same checksum: ba2a6c12f333428abc567dff3320361a

I downloaded the game again last night (for the THIRD time) and it still doesn't work. I'll post the checksum here later.

UPDATE FROM VALVE:
-----------------------------
(Edit: Thursday, March 02, 2006)

1) If the users are having trouble - have them delete the local copy of 3D.grp and then launch the game again via Steam, does the problem correct itself?
NOTE: This will extract the 3D.grp file from your "dangerous waters.gcf" cache file and will test whether the extraction is working properly.

2) Have them perform a validate on their cache data. This can be done by opening up IE/Firefox and entering "steam://validate/1600" into their browser. After Steam is done validating their "dangerous waters.gcf" cache file, they should delete their local 3D.grp file and try running the game.
NOTE: As described, this will test the integrity of the "dangerous waters.gcf" cache file itself. If it is faulty, then the download from Steam did not perform as expected.
